1800Contacts Review

$10 off $100 purchase today at 1800CONTACTS.com!

About 18 months ago, I noticed I was wearing my glasses more and more. It was time for my annual eye appointment so I popped over to my doctor’s office. Sure enough, my prescription had changed. Rather than wear glasses every day, I decided to try contact lenses.

Once we got everything situated and found contacts I was comfortable wearing, the doctor walked me out to the fitting area and said those magic words to his assistant. “She’s going to order these.” I hate when they do that. It’s a sales tactic, I understand that. And it works quite well since you’re standing there face to face with the people.

That was all well and good until I found out how much these little beauties cost from my local optometrist’s office. I ordered one box then came right home and began searching for discount contact lenses. That’s when I came upon Walmart. They seemed to have the cheapest prices. However, when I went back a couple of months later to order, Walmart was forwarding all their site traffic to 1800Contacts.com.

The prices were the same for Walmart and 1800Contacts so I went ahead and ordered.

Pros

I always ask for a copy of my prescription so I had it on hand when I placed my order. However, even if you don’t, you can get the prescription off the side of your contact lens box. Match the numbers on your box(es) with the fields on the order form and you’re all set. It’s really easy.

1800Contacts will verify your prescription with your doctor then send your contacts in just a couple of days.

Here’s what I love about 1800Contacts.

§ Free shipping on web orders over $50. (Which for most people would be every order.)

§ No need to fill out rebate forms. They apply any rebates to your order automatically when you check out.

§ You can talk to a live person if you want/need to. Just call – you guessed it – 1-800-Contacts.

§ The exact same contact lenses you order from your doctor are available at 1800Contacts, but for a big discount. Mine are pretty pricey (O2 Optix for astigmatism), but 1800Contacts had them for about $12.50 less per box.

§ Quantity discount - Contact lenses are even less expensive if you order a whole year at once. Mine would have been an additional $8.00 off per box if I’d have ordered a year’s worth. That’s about 28% less.

§ They are so easy to work with. I had a situation where I had to exchange some contacts. They not only allowed me to do it (the boxes weren’t opened yet), but they paid the return shipping and the shipping to send me the new ones! That’s unheard of these days. And the person I spoke with on the phone was extremely nice and professional.

§ They are always running specials. Just scroll down and click the Special Offers link to see if your contacts are on sale.

§ They send you little gifts with each order. Last time I got a cool contact lens case that had rubberized caps. That’s pretty neat because your hands are usually wet from contact lens solution which can make it hard to turn the caps sometimes.

I really can’t say enough good things about this company. I have been truly impressed.

Cons

None. I haven’t had one bad experience with them so far. Their website is easy to use. You can call somebody toll-free if you have any trouble at all. Their shipping is fast and free. They have exceptional live customer service. It’s simply a great place to buy.

Recommended? Absolutely yes

Coupons: They also have frequent coupon codes available like this one.  Expires 7/28/09.

My eye doctor does the same thing and tries to push me into buying my contacts through his office, but I’ve heard from so many people that it is cheaper to buy them online. I need to order contacts with my new prescription and will try 1800Contacts out. Thanks for the review!

You know what I do now when he says that? I tell them: “I still have some contacts at home so I don’t need to order right now.” It’s the truth, too. I usually go for my appointment a couple of months before my contacts run out so I actually DO have enough at home for the moment.

That’s a great idea, Karon. I also usually have a pair or 2 left when I go in for my exam, so that’s a good way to gracefully get out of ordering directly from the doctor. ;)

I finally did it! I ordered my contacts from 1-800-CONTACTS on Wednesday and received my shipment in the mail on Saturday. After I placed my order, I followed the instructions to fax my prescription in to them. Doing that expediates your order because then they don’t have to call your doctor and verify your prescription. The online ordering process was easy and painless. I also got a free lens case along with my shipment. Will definitely use them again and recommend them to others.
