How to Apply Mascara

Like most of us, I’ve always felt like mascara was a bit overrated. It never seemed to do what it said it would do. They all brag that they won’t clump and the vast majority of them do. They call claim they’ll make your lashes longer and fuller and – most of the time – it ends up being a clumpy mess. So, how do you put mascara on and which is really the best mascara?

Here’s the Deal

I’ve been through at least a dozen mascaras over the last 5 years. A couple I liked (Great Lash and Clinique Long Pretty Lashes), most I thought were awful (Revlon Double Twist and L’oreal Extra Volume Collagen). But one thing remained regardless of how they came out of the tube: my lashes didn’t seem to get long and full. That is, until I saw something a Facebook friend had on her page.

Pay attention here…

It’s Not Just the Mascara. It’s the Application.

Now, of course, you need a good quality mascara and not the $2 cheap stuff, but more importantly, you need to know the right technique for how to put mascara on. I give full credit to Jill Hughes, inventor of MarvaLash.  Her video shows you exactly how to apply mascara so that you get incredibly long lashes without the clumps and gunk that are so common.

1. Brush your lashes using a dry brush (an eyebrow brush will do, but NOT the eyelash comb).

2. Apply 1 coat of mascara.

3. Brush lashes again and you’ll immediately see them getting longer and any clumps coming off.

4. Apply a second coat of mascara.

5. Brush with dry brush.

Repeat until your lashes are as long as you would like.

Tah dah! That’s it!

I’ve never used MarvaLash so I can’t comment on that product, but Jill’s technique is outstanding! I can see how having a dry brush built into the mascara would be handy. I get stopped in stores by women asking me how I get my lashes so long and beautiful. It’s really an amazing trick. Give it a try.

Is this a technique you already use? Have you tried it recently? Let us know how you like it.
