Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Lip Gloss Review
Written by Karon on Saturday, September 26, 2009 9:20It’s seems I’ve had chronic dry lips since I was about 10 years old. Breaking into midlife didn’t help. My whole life, I’ve used some form of lip balm whether it be Chapstix, Blistix or something similar. They’ve worked to moisize my lips, but they added no color.
Traditional lipsticks dry my lips even further so I’ve never worn them except for church on Sunday, special occasions, etc. “You look like a corpse!” is the comment I’ve always heard from my mother because I stuck to clear lip balm for everyday wear.
I’ve always searched for some type of tinted lip balm, but have never found one that actually moisturized while also adding color. Burt’s Bees has a lot of shades to choose from, but they contain menthol which dried my lips further so that was out. I’ve wasted money on moisturizing lipsticks (that didn’t) and all sorts of other things: all led to disappointment. Until I tried “>Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss.
Pros
The biggest pro is that it actually does moisturize my lips. This gloss goes on smooth (not sticky) using a slanted applicator tip built into the tube. It feels really great and gives relief of dry lips within just a few seconds.
It’s sheer. I’ve always worn my makeup more natural than glamorous. I don’t care for lipstick that makes my lips the focal point of my face. The sheer tint of the Clinique Superbalm is just enough to keep me from “looking like a corpse,” but not so much that it overpowers the rest of my face.
The colors are great and they leave a wonderful shine! Keep in mind, when you look at online pictures or the individual tubes in the store that these go on sheer. Some of the shades look to be very bright sitting in the tube, but appear perfectly natural when worn.
Cons
None for me. After years of searching, I’m thrilled to have found Clinique Superbalm. It’s just what I’ve been looking for. I bought the Lilac shade right away (sort of a medium-tone mauve) and am going back to get the Currant next.
You can buy them at your local mall or online at the Clinique site. BUT… you can usually find them the cheapest at sites like Amazon.com.
