HP Elite Wireless Keyboard

Because I’m on the computer all day, from time to time my right shoulder will hurt. When I used a desktop computer, I had a keyboard tray which let me type all day long with my arms/shoulders in the correct position. Problem solved. But I switched to a laptop a few years ago so keyboard trays are no longer an option. Then it dawned on me: “Buy a wireless keyboard and set it in your lap.”

So that’s exactly what I did. I bought an HP Elite wireless keyboard and its works like a charm!

Pros

This keyboard is extremely thin: about 1/2 inch at its thickest part which makes it very lightweight. Perfect for sitting on my lap. It comes equipped with flip-open height adjustment legs that tilt it forward a bit when using it on a flat surface.

The HP Elite wireless keyboard is a full-sized keyboard with number pad. It also has a lot of other features including a “sleep” mode to conserve energy, multimedia keys, volume controls, easy install and wireless USB receiver.

And it really did install effortlessly. It’s not plug-and-play, but close to it. Plug in the receiver, turn on your PC, insert the CD provided and in about 15 seconds, the keyboard is up and ready to go. Compatible with XP and Vista. Sorry Mac users, I don’t think HP thought of you on this one.

I love the way the keys type. Fluid and effortlessly so my fingers and wrists don’t get tired.

Cons

I’ve been using this keyboard for about a week and love everything about it with one exception. The USB receiver (which is plugged into the side of my laptop) has a stupid blue light that goes on every single time I type something. When I stop typing, the light goes out. When I start typing again, here comes the light. It’s annoying. If I had an extra USB port on the back of my laptop, I’d move the receiver to a place where I wouldn’t see it.

Also there are no number lock or cap lock lights.  Those come in handy, but it’s really not that much of an inconvenience to work without them.

The HP Elite wireless keyboard retails on HP’s site for $50. I bought mine at Walmart for $37. Then I found it online at Amazon.com for $27 with free shipping. I should have checked there first. Still… it’s a small price to pay to work in comfort all day.
