With just 2 of us in the house, we often have a problem of produce going bad before we can eat it. Lettuce is a prime example, but cantaloupes, watermelons and others that are normally purchased whole also end up in the trash (at least partially) because they go bad before we can finish them.

I’d been looking for something that actually worked to keep produce fresh longer when I saw the Debbie Meyer Green Bags on TV. I was hopeful so I got some to try out at home.

Pros

They are reusable up to 10 times which can save you a good deal of money over the long run. Since they are thin and pliable, they don’t take up much space in the fridge: you can still put produce in your crisper bin even when using these bags.

They are easy to use. Just wash and thoroughly dry produce then place your fruits or veggies inside the bags. Fold the top over and you’re done.

Cons

They don’t work. I tried them on lettuce first. The lettuce got just as brown and soggy as it did without using the Debbie Meyer Green Bags. Other fruits and veggies showed similar results. Don’t waste your money.

Recommended? No

Want to try a couple of them for yourself? Let me know and I’ll mail you some of the ones I have left over if you promise to come back and honestly let us know what you thought (good or bad).

What did work? The Progressive lettuce keeper.
